The CAHA PG Forum

The CAHA PG Forum is based in the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of Birmingham. It was founded by Postgraduates, merging with GEM (Gateway to the Eastern Mediterranean) Forum in recent years and takes place during term time. It has two key aims: for Postgraduates to practice presenting papers in an informal environment; and for presenters to receive feedback on their works in progress. The Forum attracts students from all over the Department and beyond, so it is a great place to gain advice from specialists working in many diverse fields. People who present also feel more prepared to give papers at the many academic conferences that they will be expected to attend.

The Forum prides itself on being multi-disciplinary and open to all, including Undergraduates and people beyond the Department and University. Like Rosetta Journal, it serves a wide range of subjects relating to the past, going far beyond Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology. We are also fostering close ties with other related organisations within the University, such as Birmingham Egyptology, and Early Medieval, Medieval, Renaissance, Reformation, Early Modern (EMREM) Forum.

As the Forum has developed, it has become an important part of Postgraduate life in the Department. It gives Postgraduates a chance to socialise with others and avoid the seclusion that sometimes comes with intensive research.

The Forum takes place on Tuesdays during term time, starting at 5:00pm, usually in Westmere House.
